In July 1999 I was invited to participate in the 3rd Jircany Ceramic Sculpture Symposium in the Czech Republic. Having only within weeks installed the Art Park exhibition my mind was still engaged with these ideas and techniques. It was not long before I found a source of Czech crocheted lace and developed the structure for the “Jircany Date Palm” , a more voluptuous and sinuously curving growing shoot and built in the local terracotta brick clay.

The challenge of interpreting a flat, two dimensional shape into a fully in-the-round 3 Dimensional form and integrating a complex pattern onto its surface is an ongoing sculptural project. I intend to continue exploring the fractal-like Paisley pattern with computer-aided visualisation and through new work involving multiple castings.
