‘For about ten years I have explored different ways of signifying human bodily presence and qualitative human energy, through reductive sculptural forms, the inherent expressiveness of materials and architectural metaphor.
More recently, I began to work with the forms of plants or more specifically, buds, as a metaphor for another kind of natural energy, the energy of fertility, renewal and change.
In my recent small-scale sculptures, I have been trying to merge these two energies.
In ‘Budding Female’, the simplified form of the torso suggests a swelling, pneumatic volume.
The indented flower pattern both complements this reference to natural growth and alludes to floral patterning frequently used in clothing the body.’
